Oh, hell yeah, working with Shea was proving to be more fun than I’d had in a long time. Not only was she a fantastic artist, her ability to cane was a testament to that, but the woman taunted me with that contagious laugh of hers and the way her shadowy gray eyes lit up every time she smiled my way.

Fortunately, I knew she and Callum were already into it, but after the three of us talked it over and admitted that we were all attracted to her, we decided that whatever happened next would be her call. If we had lived in any other town, we’d probably be competing for her affections, but this was Cricket. If she wanted one, two or all three of us, it was up to her. We were willing to go with anything Shea wanted. And I had to admit, the possibility of sharing her made my balls ache just thinking about what that might look like.

“I made these two finials for the top of the cradle. I think they came out good, don’t you?” I asked Shea as she worked at weaving the broken panel she’d started replacing. I held out the ornate finials that I’d made on my lathe to match the ornate work on the cradle’s stand. I’d also stained them a dark rusty color to match the varnished stain of the cradle and its stand. I thought they were perfect, and I knew damn sure the customer would go crazy when she saw them sitting on the top of the cradle where there was nothing else but two holes.

“You made these?” she asked, reaching out for them. “And what did you call them?”

“Finials. They’re an ornament at the very top of a structure, or in this case, the top of the cradle. A finial finishes off the piece. It’s like wearing a bow in your beautiful hair, or if you’re a Brit woman, a fascinator. I’m pleased with how they turned out. What do you think?”

She grinned, and my world lit up. To say I was attracted to her was an understatement. It was more like she was a magnet, and I’d been pulled into her orbit and couldn’t break free if I tried.

“They’re going to look amazing. I’m sure Laura will love what we’re doing to her cradle,” she said, carefully handing the finials back to me. I placed them down on her workbench while I admired her work. She’d established the horizontal and vertical rows and had almost completed the first set of diagonal rows.

“This is looking amazing. Where did you learn how to do this? I’m impressed. When you told the customer you could cane this panel, I must admit, I had my ridiculous doubts, but seeing this now… well… you’re rockin’ it! You’d give Pete competition, and he’s been doing this for a couple of decades.”

Gio had given her a workbench up front, so she could take care of the incoming customers and have easy access to her work area.
